Aberystwyth University have been chosen as the Pot Noodle Society of the Month for August!
We spoke to their ROLE, Fairyyy, to find out more...
Congratulations on being selected as our Pot Noodle Society of the Month! First and foremost, you guys have been running Games Nights in our Discord - how often do you run these and what are they like?
Our games nights are hosted by our events manager roughly once every couple of weeks, and I personally think they are a great way for members of our Society to get to know each other. I haven't personally been to one myself this Uni year because of a lack of availability, but I've heard that they're very fun and chill introductions to the society. They play all sorts of games, and when the University year begins again we'll be hopefully running them weekly in person, doing party games and chill Society events!
Your society is named ACOG: The Second Coming. For those of us who don't know, could you explain what this means?
ACOG is one of the longest running societies within Abersytwyth University, and we unfortunately had a disappearance in the past due to lack of Committee, so this is our second discord server, which has been running for several years now and still looks strong now! We hope to be around for a very long time. If you are looking for the meaning of the name of the society itself, 'Aber's Community of Gamers', that is partially an homage to the special society tradition that is 'Champion Of Gamers', where each year we run special socials every couple of months with tournaments of different videogames to play locally, and the winner of these tournaments becomes our 'Champion of Gamers' until the next event. Throughout the year members of the society can earn points from these tournaments, and eventually at the end of the year rewards can be handed out to those who become our Champions! This is a Tradition that we hope to bring back this year after a couple of year hiatus, and we hope our active committee can help us achieve this!
Loving the revive! Despite lacking some committee members, you're clearly working hard to keep the society going. What have been the biggest struggles and successes so far for the active committee? And any idea when we might see a new president taking the reins?
After our President and our Treasurer left the University officially back in August (and good luck to them elsewhere!) our remaining committee members have been working as hard as we can to get everything going for the 2026-27 year. For the committee as a whole, I know alot of our free times have been spent trying to get everything in order where we would have additional people to help us, but for me personally my biggest struggle has been with being the 'temporary President' whilst we wait for the University to get an election going within the Society, which will probably happen sometime within October. Until then, the Society is stuck with me in the interim, and I hope to do a good job of it too xD!
Well looking to this year then, do you have any freshers plans coming up that you want to talk about?
Our Freshers Fair is quickly approaching, and we'll be having a stall there to show off our society and everything it does. We're also planning on running a taster day, to show what our society is truly like! We're planning on having consoles up for people to come play on whilst we show all the Freshers what it means to be a member of ACOG! We're a welcoming society for anyone that wishes to join and is interested, and we're all friends despite us hosting quite competitive events sometimes, and I encourage any members of Abersytwyth University to come to that event!
Final question! If you could only eat one Pot Noodle flavour for the rest of your time at university, what would it be?
Whilst I haven't personally tried pot noodles as I am a very picky eater, I am told very reliably that my committee is a very big fan of the Piri Piri Chicken flavour, so it would have to be that one (despite me being a vegetarian myself).
