University of Oxford have been selected as the Pot Noodle Society of the Month for August for creating and using their exhibition matches both to celebrate A-Level results day and to prepare their team for larger events ahead.

We spoke to their president, Laury, to find out more...

Can you walk us through the Summer Exhibition Matches in more detail?
Our main event this month was a Summer exhibition weekend in celebration of the A-level results day. We hosted two days of friendly games in League of Legends and Counter-Strike (w/ Warwick). This was just a quick stream where the players could choose any format they wanted and were free to bm.

That sounds like such an exciting way to celebrate results day! How did your members and committee feel about the exhibition matches?
From post-match dm’s, members enjoyed participating in the event and would be open to further collabs with other unis. This also helped our new committee gain some experience in running these events and acted as a trial run of what’s yet to come!

With a new academic year just around the corner, it must be a busy time for planning. What are some of the key events and initiatives you’re most looking forward to?
Our next events are planned for our freshers week (mid-Oct) in which we are organising some socials and a Riot play club. We’ll also have some guest speakers in from Melanin Gamers.

Running events can be daunting for some committees. Based on your experience, what advice would you give to other societies who want to try something similar?
In terms of being able to run similar events like ours, all you need is enough players to run a team on both sides. Everything was planned last minute but came together nicely. Someone with experience on OBS is helpful, but there are plenty of other ways of streaming I’m sure.

Last but not least, if your society was a Pot Noodle flavour what would it be?

Our Pot Noodle flavour would be ‘original curry’, because it’s their oldest lasting flavour.
